DRIFT
CREATIVE DIRECTor: MAX LARSSON

My career began with ski and surf films, chasing light, weather, and moments that could never be repeated. Those early years were defined by unpredictability and presence, capturing something real in environments that do not wait for you. Drift is the first time I have felt that same sense of possibility through these new tools, not just to capture a world, but to build one around the emotional core of surfing. To shape memory, atmosphere, and movement in a way that still feels grounded, tactile, and honest. At its heart, this film is about returning, to life, to movement, and to the people and places that define who we are. After a period where everything is put on hold, where your body and identity are uncertain, there is something powerful in finding your way back to what once made you feel alive. Surfing becomes more than an action, it is a way of reconnecting, of proving to yourself that you are still there. This project is deeply rooted in collaboration. From the earliest visual prompts to the final soundtrack, it has been about building something emotional rather than explanatory, a film that does not tell you what to feel, but invites you to remember something of your own.

Max kindly asked us to be a part of this cutting edge passion project, and once we saw the first cut there was no way we could pass it up. I started hearing ideas right away of styles and themes, and so did Claudia. For me (Niko), it was important to reflect the character’s depth and backstory, given his strong connection to surfing from growing up with a father who surfed as well. It has been a long time since he has been in the water, and creating space for that absence felt essential. I wanted to build a sonic landscape that reflects both the island nature and the vastness of the ocean. His obstacle is to reconnect and heal his relationship with it, and when he finally returns, the sound opens up with him. When I (Claudia) heard the story, I connected to the feeling of something that once was a natural part of life slowly fading away. It is something I think about often, how we find our way back to what made us feel alive. In the lyrics, I wanted to express that a part of you can feel buried, but never truly gone. It can be awakened again, through another person or through a feeling, guiding you back home to yourself. Lyrics: I’m not gone I’m buried Still here but far away Never should’ve left Myself How I did Father said don’t worry You’ll find The way back home
